I was astounded to read that the petition, signed by twenty percent of QAC voters, was summarily rejected by our county officials (even before the extended deadline had passed), especially after it seemed that the Kent Island Defense League took such great steps and effort to ensure the legality of the petition up front. It is also extremely upsetting that the petition was rejected even after "The Act (County Ordinance No. 01-01) shall take effect...unless a referendum petition complying with application of Maryland Law is filed within forty (40) days is filed within 40 days after August 21, 2001." This public notice seemed to invite public discourse and a possible petition drive if sufficient support could be generated. And this Public Notice was printed "By Authority of THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY". So much for representing the constituents of Queen Anne's County in an honest, upfront manner. At least if the issues in the petition are not brought up for referendum on election day, 2002, we concerned citizens of Queen Anne's County can focus ALL of our time and financial support helping ANYone opposed to the current regime. more from Mr. Spiegel... I, for one, and I'm sure I'm not alone, will not be deterred from donating to KIDL because it is not a tax deductible contribution. I am actually very pleased that KIDL will not be restricted in becoming actively ivolved in our local politics. I am very grateful there is an organization like KIDL and people like ya'll who can stand up against those fools in public office.
