rejection of the Petition for Vote... UPDATE
If you will recall, the Commissioners passed this ordinance in August of 2001 and the public notice published on August 31st stated it was subject to a referendum. When we read this notice we checked with the Board of Elections and our attorney, and began the petition drive with less than 30 days in which to accomplish our goal. To bring the ordinance to referendum we needed 10 percent of the registered voters to sign our petition. We turned in signatures of over 5 percent of the registered voters before the end of September, winning an extension. We ended the drive a few weeks later, before the deadline, with over 4400 signatures, over 20 percent of the registered QAC voters! Everyone worked very hard on this drive and it was disheartening to have our petition declared "deficient" shortly thereafter. Judge Sause agreed that the ordinance was not subject to referendum, and should not have been advertised as such. We are exploring our options with our attorney at this time. KIDL thanks everyone involved in the petition drive and all those who have supported our efforts financially the past several months. We still have a case pending on the Growth Allocation process and approval by the State.
