| Rezoning request for '50/301 Split' given nod |
|
| CENTREVILLE - Only one of three rezoning requests for large parcels near the U.S. 50/301 Split received a favorable response from the Queen Anne's County Planning Commission during the continuing process of comprehensive rezoning at a special meeting Aug. 20. |
| Recommendations
on those and 54 other requests will be forwarded to the County Commission,
which will schedule a public hearing before making a final determination.
The planning commission will complete work on comprehensive rezoning matters, mandated as part of the Comprehensive Plan Update, at an Aug. 27 meeting that will begin at 9 a.m. in its offices off of State Route 213 south of Centreville. And rezoning of 50 acres that is part of the Queenstown Community Plan but outside the town limits to accommodate a proposed resort hotel development was recommended for approval only when chairman Rodger Weese broke a 2-2 tie with his favorable vote. His vote combined with those of Peter Lee and Scott Jacobs, while voting against were David Clark and Loring Hawes. Member Patti Miller had recused herself on the matter. The favorable recommendation agreed with views that the resort hotel proposal is already part of the Queenstown Plan and that the rezoning is only the first step for the developer, Washington Brick and Terra Cotta, which also developed the nearby Queenstown Harbor Golf Links. "We don't want to go through the process like we did last time," said WBTC principal Charley Burney of the seven years it took to approve and gain permits for the golf course. ©The Star Democrat 2002 |
