In 1998 the current commissioners
said:
On Taxes
Their comments ranged from “…we
should meet requirements and still lower taxes”, to “Taxes can be kept
to a minimum by using tax money wisely”, and “QA has the highest bond rating
available to a county our size”.
On Growth
They said - “We must approach
this in a slow and delicate manner”, “The Sub Area Concept protects rural
areas from sprawl and provides the convenience of town living” and “All
avenues for state and federal help in enlarging the county’s infrastructure
must be explored”.
On many occasions they have
stated how they support protecting our environment.
Did They Keep Their
Word?
You be the Judge
Our taxes were raised, and
the County debt has increased 73% in the past three years!
Last year the largest Critical
Area Parcel in state history was granted for development in our County,
and there are almost 9,000 new homes being planned RIGHT NOW according
to the Planning & Zoning Department.
Furthermore, more and more
money continues to be spent on Planning & Zoning yet we still do not
have sufficient infrastructure to serve what already exists.
